In the process of writing tax articles I have taken to using keypad shortcuts (or ‘hotkeys’) to reduce the risk of repetitive strain.
Expanded my short cut use beyond copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) has proved invaluable and therefore I include a list of my favourite short cuts along with a few web-browser and program short cuts.
File management
| Ctrl+N | Open a new document |
| Ctrl+W | Close the current document |
| Ctrl+S | Save the current document |
Copy, cut and paste
| Ctrl+A | Highlight whole document |
| Ctrl+C | Copy highlighted text |
| Ctrl+X | Cut highlighted text |
| Ctrl+V | Paste what was cut or copied |
Delete and undo
| Ctrl+Del | Delete the word in front of the cursor |
| Ctrl+Z | Undo your last deletion |
Inserting bold, italic and underlined words
| Ctrl+B | Write in bold text |
| Ctrl+I | Write in italic text |
| Ctrl+U | Underline text |
Press the Ctrl+[key] to start the function and then again to end.
Useful program and web browser short cuts
| Ctrl+T | Open a new tab while web browsing |
| Ctrl+Tab | Cycle through all open web browser tabs |
| Ctrl+N | Open a new window |
| Ctrl+W | Close the current window/tab |
| Alt+F4 | Close the active window |
| Alt+D | Jump to the URL line to overtype a search on a web browser |
| Alt+← | Back a click |
| Alt+→ | Forward a click |
| Alt+Esc | Cycle through all active windows |
If you like what you see and you find them useful then email the list to a friend.
In truth I was amazed that I had not been using more short cuts beforehand.
